gg: Rory and Lorelai / believe they're r

Self-pimping meme

A meme, stolen from [info]samirant, for a little early morning pick-me-up:

Post a list of your top five favorite fics you've written, regardless of fandom or the reason you love them. This isn't about the BEST things you've written, but what you LOVE most. Then tag five other people to do the same.

Well, I've only written in the GG fandom, so they'll all come from there, but here we go, in no particular order:

Five stories )

Okay, I'm ready to not have a night at home. It's been a nice week for having slow days at home, but I feel like doing something tomorrow night. Maybe I'll see if anyone's around--I think [info]beauty_awake was out of town, but maybe she's back? I don't know... I'll have to see.

I'm finally getting caught up on Ugly Betty, since I missed a few episodes during the fall. I'm downloading the episodes that I haven't seen yet, and by the time new ones start next week, I'll be all caught up. Seriously, it's a great show; it just happened to be the one that got pushed off my schedule first when I couldn't watch everything I wanted to in a week.

I like having evenings off, but I feel like doing something else. Saturday, though, Kat and I are hanging out, and on Sunday, I'm heading up to Edmonton to spend New Year's with [info]murphy987. I think rehearsals for various things start up around the week of the 8th, but it's just a couple of evenings a week right now.

I've been writing quite a bit this week, though. I've got a one-shot ready to go for tomorrow in [info]gg_watching, and I've been working on another one-shot that got pushed a bit to the side over the holidays. Actually, there are another two on the go besides that, but I haven't even picked them up recently. I'm going to try and finish one at a time.

I had something else I was going to talk about, but I really can't remember what it was. It was a lot deeper than TV and writing fic, though.

I got GG season 6 on sale for $30 today, which I was pretty pleased with, especially since I've got the other five seasons, so it doesn't feel like I'm spending a lot of money to buy the whole series.

And that's it, except that I finally sat down with the manual for my espresso maker and figured it out, so now I've got the coffee maker and the espresso maker ready to go. I have a feeling that mornings will still mostly be drip coffee, though, since I can set that and go, whereas the espresso requires more "babysitting," especially if I'm steaming milk to go with it.

Uhhh... yeah. Could I have any more random thoughts? I don't think I'll keep rambling to find out.

Just a tiny bit bored (can't you tell?)

I forgot my iPod yesterday, and I really can't do data entry for 8 hours with no music, but luckily, I had my laptop with me, so both yesterday and today, I've had my music playing on my computer while I work on the office computer. Hence the reason that I can have episodes of certain TV shows on in the background. Nothing that I'm watching for the first time or would actually need to pay attention to, but older episodes of Gilmore Girls, Everwood, or Veronica Mars are fair game.

Randomness: Calgary has way too few coffee shops. I drive all the way from the northwest to the northeast every morning, and there are no Starbucks directly on my way. My office is right beside a rather large shopping complex, and there's no Starbucks (or coffee shop of any sort) in there, either. There's one independent coffee shop (with free wireless) in between work and my rehearsal space, and it's been closed for the past 3 weeks for a family emergency. Not cool. When I have a few hours to kill, I want to take my laptop and get some work done, and it's too far to go home, so I need other options.

Holy crap, I'm bored. Today is going by so slowly. I miss the forums. I miss livejournal. I miss all the things that help me procrastinate and keep me from feeling like I'm in a cell for 8 hours a day.

Let's talk about something happier, though, shall we? I'm done complaining for a while.

I'll be home to watch GG tonight, thankfully. Not VM, though, since I've got a 7:30 rehearsal. GG is on at 6, though, so I can go home (to my house, not where I'm sitting) and watch it, and still get up to rehearsal on time.  VM will have to wait until later, though.

On another positive note, though, I finished chapter 18 of "And When She Was Good" yesterday, and I'm plowing through the next one today. Apparently Ican always find things to do with my time if I try hard enough. That story has been waiting for almost two months, though-and 18 has been half-written for almost two months, as well-so it's about time I got back to it and got some momentum going again.

I hope traffic isn't too bad getting home tonight. I really don't want to be stuck on the roads forever. Just get me home as quickly as possible. Oh, and speaking of traffic. it happens every year when we get the first snow. Despite living in a city where we have snow--and lots of it--every winter, people always forget to drive when the first one hits. Last night, there was an 80-car pileup on the Deerfoot. No major injuries, but still--80 cars were involved? Seriously. And one more thing about traffic (have I mentioned that I'm bored?): It's actually faster to get to work--in the northeast--from where I'm housesitting--in the southwest--than it is to get there from home--in the northwest.

Okay, seriously. That's gotta be an all-time low. I'm talking about traffic? Yeah, it's time for something new. I'll go back to writing fic now.

Vortex

Title:  Vortex
Rating: PG
Pairing:  Rory/Logan
Genre:  Angst, drama
One shot/multi chapter:  One-shot
Summary:  Written in response to Elaida’s “End of the Road” challenge, as posted on Illusive.  “Not all couples last forever. How would Rory and Logan’s story end?”  Requirements are posted at the end of the story.

Author’s Note:  I saw this challenge on Illusive months ago, and bookmarked it as something that I wanted to write, but I had the hardest time finding the story for it—I struggled with it for weeks, finally coming up with something like a Shakespearean five-act structure that presented a challenge and a framework for me, and I went from there.  Finding the impetus was difficult, and I struggled long and hard to find the actions that would guide the story, and in the end, I hope they work.  As with almost everything I write, [info]adinarj has been the greatest beta I could ask for, especially in hashing out the details of the story and listening to me whine for months about how it was going nowhere.  And now that you’ve listened to me rant about it for half as long as the story is, enjoy!

Writing again

Guess what I'm doing?

Writing!  Ha!  I haven't touched any of my stories in at least 2 weeks, and I'm finally getting somewhere on my ficathon story, not to mention having some ideas running around my head for AWSWG.  I actually have chapter 17 ready to post, so I should do that soon, even though I only have chapter 18 half finished.

But right now, I need to get at least the first draft of the first chapter of the ficathon story written.  That's the main goal for today, so we'll see how far I get.

But it's lunchtime soon, so I should get ready to head out.  Where to go, where to go... (besides the grocery store, that is)

The Mystery Caller

By the way, [info]lady_m2835 has a new story up!

The Mystery Caller

(It's got some very minor S7 spoilers, if you're really squeamish about those!  Which I, these days, am not.  The little ones, anyway.  Nothing big, but I'm not quite a Mary anymore.)

It just went silent in here, and I'm not sure why

I... seem to have lost my writing momentum.

I think I've officially jumped on the Veronica Mars bandwagon.  Does 18 episodes in 5 days constitute "jumping on"?

[info]scripted22 gets to have Timbits soon! Yes, that's what I'll get when I get into the Calgary airport at 3:45 a.m. and I'm waiting for someone to drag himself out of bed to come pick me up. Very nice. And, believe it or not, the play I'm doing this fall is set in a Tim Horton's! You know it's by a Canadian playwright when...

Is it bad of me to hope that my niece doesn't sleep through the night that night? Because if she doesn't, Kat will come meet me, since Kayla will be keeping her awake anyway. If Kayla's sleeping, of course Kat's not going to come. But if she's up anyway...

Break time

I want to be working.  Instead, I'm applying for jobs online, sending the last few invitations for my sister's wedding shower, getting ready to write the last little bit of chapter 17 that got deleted last week, perusing the forums, and trying to get as much of my online work done as I can, so that I feel like I'm at least being semi-productive.  But I'm not making any money doing this.  Ah, such is the life of a temp.

And yeah, chapter 15 of And When She Was Good is up.  So is chapter 7 of Algonquin Escapade, and chapter 3 of Come Away With Me.  Go look!!

And because I need a procrastination break, this was stolen from [info]rubykatewriting:

1. Are you named after anyone? If so, explain.
My first name (Alida) was my great-grandmother's name; my middle name (Ruth) is my mom's middle name.

2. Do you have your children's names picked out already?
Not set in stone, but there are ideas.  I like Elizabeth (but shortened to Ella or Elly) Cailiosa , Madeleine Anne, or Isabella (no middle name with that one yet) for girls, or Davin Micah, Kieran Matthew, or Elliott James for boys.

3. If you were born a member of the opposite sex what would your name have been?
Eric (my mom's maiden name is Erickson).  I'm not sure why they didn't go with Erica, then, but I like my name better anyway.  My brother got Eric as one of his middle names, so they got to use it.

4. If you could re-name yourself what name would you pick and why?
When I was 5 I tried to re-name myself "Star Princess."  Does that count?  I put it on my school papers and everything!  I wouldn't trade it, though--when I was in junior high, I really liked common names spelled in very unusual ways, and then I realized that was just cruel.  But having an unusual name spelled unusually?  No problems with that.  If I give my kids strange names, they have nothing to complain about, because I managed just fine!

5. Are there any mispronunciations/typos that people do w/ your name constantly?
Constantly.  I get it pronounced Ah-Ly-Dah or Ah-Lid-Ah, instead of Ah-Lee-Da.  As for spelling?  Oh, you name it.  Alita is the most common, but I get Aleda, Aleta, Oleta, Olida... all kinds of weird vowel combinations.

I think I'm getting things to beta from both [info]adinarj and [info]lady_m2835 tonight.  I'd better be, at least.  Consider this my not-very-threatening threat, ladies.  Heh.  I need to get out of my own head for a day or two.

Oh yeah--I read this today, and I loved it.  Just wanted to pass it along, for anyone else who feels like reading a slightly angsty, heartwrenchingly well-written Rory/Jess one-shot.  It's really short; it'll just take a minute to read, but it's totally worth it:  Between the Lines, by colorscope.

Yeah, not a fan when my internet at home craps out.  I'm at Think Coffee right now, and I'll probably be here for most of the afternoon/evening, since, well, you know.

I did, however, have myself a mini-marathon, watching about 6 episodes of American Dreams and 3 of Everwood--season 3 of both.

I wrote like a crazy woman this week.  Finished my two-week goals within the first 5 days, so now, I have to set new goals for next week.  It's good.  Very good.  I'm not posting it all at once, but it's nice to be getting ahead on my AWSWG chapters, not feeling like I'm racing from one to the next in between postings.

Couch potato

This is most definitely the summer of the TV show. Between Gilmore Girls, American Dreams, Everwood, and now (soon) Veronica Mars, I'm caught up in way too many ongoing storylines, which is completely different from watching that many movies in a short period of time.

Writing goals? I said that I wanted to write chapters 14 and 15 of AWSWG and finish the Rory/Logan challenge fic while I was on this two-week assignment, remember?

And I think I set it up so I can update my lj from my email, so let's see if this works!

Random:

Logan pulls a Zoolander.

Or, at least, that's what it looked like to me when I paused it.

(That, and go read "Blame Finn and Lorelai" by [info]lady_m2835. You'll laugh for days.)

Rainbow Sherbet

Title: Rainbow Sherbet
Rating: G
Pairing: Rory/Logan
Genre: Fluff
One shot/multi chapter: One shot
Summary: Ice cream and minor surgery, set in the not-too-distant future.

Wind-up toy

Another productive writing day, since work was inordinately slow. Heh. Oh well. I don't mind being paid to write.

I'm so close to being finished chapter 14--I just need to transcribe "The Real Paul Anka" so that I've got the dialogue right, and plug in one little scene that I really need the script for. Unfortunately, it's not up on twiz yet, so I don't have that option, like I usually do. I've got to do it myself.

And then I tried to email myself the file from work today, and it didn't attach, apparently, so I can't even work on it tonight. I'll have to try and get the scenes transcribed tonight, so that I can finish it up and send it off to [info]adinarj tomorrow for the beta.

Fluff. Marshmallows.

I'm hot and I don't want to move, but there's rainbow sherbet in the basement freezer (yes, [info]adinarj, real rainbow sherbet, which was an inspiration all its own...), and I'll have to move to get some.

All I Want For Christmas Is You

I feel like I should bring over all my discussions from the old "Talking Gilmore" blog--my own episode recaps and everything--and post them here. And maybe I will, but not right now.
